Catherine Gilsdorf Middleton

1928 - 2008

Catherine Gilsdorf Middleton, 79, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Westminster-Canterbury, in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was the beloved wife and best friend of H. Warren Middleton, Jr. for 56 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their daughter, Cynthia M. Villareal, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Cathy was born June 2, 1928, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the daughter of the late Howard and the late Bessie Gilsdorf. She went to local schools in Chillicothe and graduated from the Ohio State University. A Registered Dental Hygienist, she worked in the offices of Dr. Cleveland Porter; Dr. Floyd Bice, and the late Dr. James Flowers. She was active in the Virginia Dental Hygienists Association, for which she served as Treasurer for several years. She was a long standing member of the Woman's Club of Lynchburg, where she also served as Treasurer for some time. She had been active in Girl Scouting, where she had held numerous offices, including a position on the regional Girl Scout Council. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday January 26, at The First Presbyterian Church with the Reverends John Scholar and David Gellert officiating. A reception will follow at the church. The family will receive friends at the church before the service starting at 1 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster-Canterbury, and her doctors, and the staff of Lynchburg General Hospital for the special care given to Cathy. Interment will be in the family plot in Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio. Whitten Funeral Home and Ware Funeral Home (Chillicothe) are assisting the family.
