My father was proud of his Swiss ancestry. While growing up, this meant trips to the German American festival, the Swiss Hall, and Sunday mornings listening to the radio for the German American hour. I briefly moved back in with my parents after returning from New Mexico and found that, while his passion for his heritage hadn't changed, his hearing had changed. Once the walls started to vibrate with the first "oompah" loud enough to warrant a police visit, I knew there was no going back to sleep.

Grandpa always had a joke to tell or a story to share. Many a nights I spent at his house cherishing every memory with him. He was a good man who will always be dear to my heart. Grandpa cared greatly for his family and dogs. His love for his model T cards remind me of the stories he shared since I have been a young child. If I could take one thing I learned from him and teach it to others, I would share his love towards others, the compassion in his heart, and never being afraid to experience new things. He carried his achievements even to the last moments of his life. Grandpa was so proud of the buliding at U of Toledo that he endured many hours of sweat into the hand carved bricks. From sitting around the table playing cards, to icing cupcakes my Grandmother had made and even slipping me cash when he saw a good grade, Grandpa was loved by many and will never be forgotten in this world. I can honestly say he is up in heaven with God. And who knows maybe even at a God's bakery just like the one his father owned at Front St.

Uncle Bill always made me feel special...because he was a special person. I loved staying with him and Aunt Margaret every summer. So many good memories of my childhood were because of them. Perhaps small things to others, but glorious for me. The only mail I got was my birthday card from them. He introduced me to onion rings, saved my favorite donut for me and treated me to ice cream cones.
Thanks for the memories.
