Freda Moffet Obituary

Freda Maxine Risewick Moffet, 84, passed peacefully to her heavenly reward Monday, June 29, 2009 in the presence of her loving family. Freda was born October 10, 1924, in a farmhouse near Lovewell, Kansas to William and Flossie Kershner Risewick. On December 23, 1945, she married Wilmer Moffet in the Oakland Church of the Brethren in Topeka, Kansas. Freda graduated from the high school in Lovewell, KS in 1942. She was the Jewel County spelling champion and came to Topeka two years representing Jewel County in the state spelling bee. She graduated from Christ's Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was loved as much as she loved. She was an elementary school room mother, a member of the Indian Hills EHU unit, a 4-H sewing leader, a Sunday school teacher who also served in the church nursery of the Topeka Church of the Brethren. She was a long time member of that church. She lived a life of service and helping others. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook, gardener, and hostess. Her nursing knowledge and skills were freely volunteered in the service to family and friends. She maintained her sharp wit and loveable sense of humor until the end. She loved life and accepted death as a fact of life. She is survived by her husband, Wilmer, one son, Charles (Marie) Moffet of Ozawkie, Kansas, and a daughter, Susan (Harold) Rhea, of North Platte, Nebraska. She is survived by eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Memorial Contributions can be sent to the Men's Work and the Women's Work of the Rochester Community Church of the Brethren through the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 S.W. Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Rochester Community Church of the Brethren, 3201 N. W. Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas. Burial will be at Shawnee Center Cemetery at Wakarusa, Kansas.
