MATTIE TOM (TOMMIE) ANDREWS
WESLACO - Mattie Tom (Tommie) Andrews, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2009. She was born on Aug. 2, 1921 in Corpus Christi, Texas to William Sherman and Mattie Lillian Steed. She was raised by her grandparents, Mattie and Tom Wooldridge on their farm in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was married to Nealy Bellard for 23 years until his sudden death in 1962. They had a daughter, Kathleen Bellard Broyles and husband Tom of Houston, Texas. She was later married to Ed Andrews for 19 years until his death in 1986. Tommie had lived in Weslaco since 1954 and was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church in Weslaco. She was also a member of Delta Literary Review and was the Administrative Secretary for the Weslaco Independent School District for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Tom) Broyles and brother: Bob Steed. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elva Bennett and brother, Dub Steed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. The Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco with Rev. Steven Parker, Pastor, First Baptist Church of Weslaco, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Funeral services are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
