Gertrude K. "Trudy" Watkins

Watkins, Trudy Gertrude K. (Trudy) Watkins was born in Preston, Minnesota on September 3, 1926 and died December 12, 2009 in Addison, Texas after a valiant battle with cancer. Her parents, Mary and Erland Kummen, were Norwegian immigrants, and Trudy was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. After attending the University of Minnesota, she moved to Amarillo where she met and married Richard Rye Watkins. They eventually moved to Dallas in 1965 where they raised three daughters. Trudy is predeceased by her parents, her husband (who died in 1990), and daughter Jane Anne who died in infancy. She is survived by her daughters and sons in law: Mary Nan and Jeff Doumany, Susie and Jim Pepitone, Karen and Rick Horne; and by her beloved grandchildren: Sarah Head and husband Bryan, John Doumany and wife Jennie, Lauren Sutton and husband Jeff, Dylan Horne and Zachary Horne. They will miss "Gammy" very much. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Lewis Welter. Trudy's family was the true source of her joy, and she will be dearly missed. Trudy was an active member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas for 45 years, and had many dear friends from the church that visited her often during her illness. There will be a memorial service at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Tuesday, December 15 at 11:00 am (11122 Midway Road, Dallas, Texas 75229). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Trudy's name, or the charity of your choice.
