Elden Carter Obituary

Elden Dale Carter, 78, Milford, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Sheldon Healthcare Center in Sheldon.
He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Stockland, a son of Vernell and Winifred Walker Carter.
He married Hazel Berry Aug. 5, 1953, in Milford. She survives in Milford.
Mr. Carter served in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He was of Lutheran faith and was the manager for over 30 years at Grab-It-Here Stores and was in maintenance for over 14 years at Milford Grade School. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and playing cards.
He is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Mark) Bruens of Milford, Barbara Carter of Clinton; and three grandchildren, Valerie Knapp, Travis Knapp and Brandon Knapp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Schwer with the Rev. Matt Steendahl officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford with military graveside rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23, Iroquois County VFW Post #7450 and Milford American Legion Post #723.
Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice or the donor's choice.
