Nelson John Cormier, Sr

YOUNGSVILLE - Memorial Services for Nelson John Cormier, Sr., 69, will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Our Savior's Church, 1201 East Brossard Road, Lafayette, LA 70508. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1:00PM and continue until service time at the church.

Although a native of Mire, LA, Mr. Cormier has resided in Youngsville, LA for the past 9.5 years. Nelson was a good friend who never met a stranger. He was an uncomplicated man…a jokester… a true Cajun cook, a sportsman who loved cooking and fishing in the outdoors; he had an exceptional talent in woodworking and shared his love of horses with his children.

Nelson had a special "Santa Claus" heart which he used to love his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the many friends he took in as "family". His wife, Linda was his "Shiny object" in his life…his reward for all the good he'd done with his years. She was his ladder in his climb up to the heavens…his rock on this earth, and always his support in all things he endeavored to do.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Landry Cormier; son, Nelson "John" Cormier, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Christie Caballero and their mother Genita Daigle Cormier; step-daughter, Angela Besson Santiny; step-son, Wallace Besson, Jr. and his five grandchildren, Charles, Christopher, Hunter, Tanner and Kaylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elodie Martin Cormier; only brother, Alton Cormier and a grandson, Benjamin Cormier.

He will be dearly missed by a very large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. We love him, we will miss him, and we look forward to being reunited with him again someday. May God bless you Nelson…and all us poor souls left behind…for you are truly in a better place.

The Cormier family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana, especially Mr. Iggy Landry and Ms. Vanessa Jean Loius. Also, a special thanks to Pastor Rob Longmire and Joshua Fontenot who both knew how to ease and settle Nelson's heart in the name of God.
