Johnson, Reuben M. Age 94 of Minneapolis, died January 1, 2013. Reuben was born on March 28, 1918 at home near Webster, ND. He spent his childhood in North Dakota and teen and early adult years on several farms near Kandiyohi and Cokato, Minnesota. He moved to Minneapolis, married Eileen Larson of Kandiyohi in January, 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of 1942 assigned to the 517th Ordnance Company (Heavy Maintenance Field Army). He completed basic training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, transferred to Camp Adair, Oregon, deployed to New Guinea in 1944 and the Philippines in 1945, and discharged in 1946 as a T4. After the war he raised a family, was active in scouting, hunting and fishing, and worked for Crown Iron Works, the Cornelius Co., and finally with Control Data Corporation from March 1962 to June 1987. In retirement he was active with his children, their many house projects, the Nokomis Square workshop, fishing, cards, and raising his grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Eileen in 2006 and parents, Lillian and Martin Johnson. Survived by sons, Gary (Barb), Craig (Charlene); daughter, Vicki (Gerald); and granddaughters, Kierstin (Markham), Alicia, and Rachel. A funeral will be held on Sunday, January 6 at 2 P.M. at Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 50th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Those with memories are invited to share. In lieu of flowers, your donations to Minnehaha United Methodist Church are appreciated. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling at a later date.
