In Oakland on November 27 at the age of 75. Born in Los Angeles, Anna Marie was the youngest of the four children of George Law and Dorothy Ritti Law. Growing up in Los Angeles, she attended Holy Spirit Grammar School and Bishop Conaty Memorial High School, graduating in June of 1956. In August of that same year Anna Marie entered the Sisters of Mercy in Burlingame, professed her vows in 1959, and began a forty-five year ministry in elementary education. Sister taught middle grades at St. Bruno School, Whittier; St. Pius X School, Santa Fe Springs; and St. John's Military Academy, Chatsworth. She then moved on to junior high grades at St. Bartholomew School, San Mateo; St. Catherine's and Our Lady of Angels Schools in Burlingame; and St. Gabriel School, San Francisco. In 1979 Sister became principal of St. Thomas School in Los Angeles, serving there for the next nine years while completing work for an M.A. in Education from the University of San Francisco. In 1989 Sister began twelve years as principal of St Aloysius School, Los Angeles. Sister then served two years on the staff of the education department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and two years in patient relations at St. Mary's Medical Center, Long Beach, before illness made it necessary for her to move in 2008 to Marian Oaks, the sisters' retirement home in Burlingame. Sister spent her final months at Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland. Sister Anna Marie was very kind and compassionate. She was very athletic in her younger years and loved the outdoors, taking her students camping and hiking often. She was a well-beloved teacher and principal. She is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Tom, Lois, Marty, Paula (deceased), Annie, Johnny and Mary, and her loving community of the Sisters of Mercy.
Friends may call at Marian Oaks, 2300 Adeline Drive, Burlingame, after 3:00 p.m. on Friday December 6. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7. Memorial gifts may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 2300 Adeline Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010.

I spent 12 wonderful years with Sr. Anna at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Los Angeles. She was not only my principal, but also my mentor and dear friend. We enjoyed working together, but also numerous biking, hiking, and eating adventures. She was a strong, determined woman with a generous and kind heart.
I'm so happy that I got to see her at Marian Oaks in July, after my niece's SF wedding. At first, she didn't recognize me, but as soon as I said "St. Thomas" and "Chris," her eyes lit up and I saw her bright spirit, still there, even though she lived with such painful disability.
My condolences to her family and to all the Sisters of Mercy who knew and loved her. I'm comforted in knowing that her spirit is now free and in the loving presence of God.

I attended St. Aloysius my 6th grade year. It was a difficult transitional year for me and she was so kind and supportive. She recognized my potential and encouraged my abilities when I didn't recognize them myself (being an insecure pre-teen). I will forever be grateful

Sister Anna will always be remembered by my classmates, my parents and myself as a caring and compassionate person. She started at St. Aloysius School in Los Angeles, when I started first grade. She was a tough cookie but I believe we all needed that in order to grow and become great people in this world. She brought many changes to St. Al's and helped this community in Los Angeles. Thank you Sister Anna for leaving us many memories, teachings and compassion for helping others.

To the Sisters of Mercy on the recent loss of one of your dear Sisters.
We had the privilege of knowing her and loving her the short two years she worked with us at St. Mary Medical Center,Long Beach. She was so vibrant and witty and always a joyful spirit.
She left a wonderful legacy and was a blessing for those of us who knew her.

Dear Law family, it does not seem possible that this vibrant woman has passed from our midst. I will remember most her warm smile and sense of humor that brought on her fun laugh. I thank God for her ministry of education to the less fortunate. She is watching over you because you loved her so much. What joy there must have been when she joined her heavenly family. May your memories keep you strong in the days ahead.

Dear Annie and all Family Members,
Anna was special to me as she was to all of you. I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that Anna is now free and without confinement and pain. I lived with Anna and camped with her one summer. She was special. Take care of yourselves. She loved you.
