Alma Baldwin Obituary
1937-2018
ALMA VIVIAN LEWIS BALDWIN passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at the age of 81 in the Methodist Hospital Emergency Room, Texas Medical Center. She was born on February 7, 1937 in Anahuac, Texas. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Inez Lewis. Her siblings, Myrtle Lewis, sister, Horace Lewis, brother, and Harold Lewis, brother. Alma attended grade school in Double Bayou, TX. She began her higher education career at Prairie View A & M University where she received a B.S. Degree in Dietetics. While pursuing her higher education career at Prairie View A & M University Alma worked in the library where she developed her love for the field of Library Science. She later returned to Prairie View A & M University and received a M.S. Degree in Library Science & Media Technology while teaching and working as a Librarian with the Houston Independent School District, the Houston Community College System and the Rice University. In addition to her Post Secondary and Graduate Degrees she also received many certifications from Texas Women's University, University of Houston and St. Thomas University. Alma was a dedicated and passionate educator/public servant for 50 exuberant years!
Alma was a true "TRAILBLAZER". She loved people and always put others before herself. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, intellect, entrepreneurial spirit, kindness, love, wonderful sense of humor, and her overall contagious smile. Alma is survived by Jerry B. Baldwin, spouse; Arnold B. Baldwin, son; and Arlieta I. Baldwin, daughter; Ida Lewis Ashford, sister; Elga O. Jackson, aunt; and Rev. Xavier Lewis, godson all of whom she adored and cherished. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved and cared for deeply.
The Alma Baldwin family will have visitation from 6-9p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2600 Holman Street, Houston, TX 77004. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018, also at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2600 Holman Street, Houston, TX 77004. Repast immediately following the service at 1818 Eldridge Road, Sugarland, TX 77478. Interment services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday November 10, 2018 at Martha Godfrey Cemetery, 338 Church Road, Double Bayou, TX.

Mrs. Baldwin was one of the sweetest persons I have ever met. Always greeting with a smile and asking how you were. I have missed her sitting behind me in church with her family. It is my sincerest prayer that God gives you the peace I know she would want her love ones to have.

Arnold, While I didn't know your mother, I did know you and she raised a successful and well loved man that I know will miss his mother very much.
