Mertha D. Elmore Wright was born on August 25, 1931 in Coldspring, Texas. She was the youngest of twelve children born to Bennie and Minnie Elmore. Mertha was a retired H.I.S.D. Educator after 40 plus years of dedicated services. She departed this earthly life on December 28, 2018.Visitation will be held on (Saturday) January 5, 2019 from 9-10:55 a.m., Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 a.m., both services will be held at Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2603 Anita, Rev. Danny Davis, Pastor/Officiating. Interment Paradise North Cemetery.

Ms. Mertha Wright was a dear friend.
I met her while teaching 3rd Grade at Dow Elementary School. She was the librarian.
She invited me into her home. Because I didn't have relatives in Houston, she welcomed me to fellowship during the holidays with her family. I made gumbo in her kitchen. I will miss talking on the phone, and watching soap operas with her.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Ms. Wright touched so many lives.
I'm grateful I had the chance to know her as both a colleague and a cherished friend.
The best memories I have are visiting her, watching Soap Operas with her, and fixing a pot of Gumbo in her kitchen. She didn't let just anyone cook in her kitchen . I guess I was SPECIAL!
Praying that the family will find comfort in memories of her and the knowledge that others are missing her too.
