Dear Sharon and family,
I just now learned of John´s passing in Aug 2020. I´m so sorry for your loss. Gordon held John in high regards and enjoyed working with him at Wright-Patt. He cherished their friendship as well. I´m sad to say that Gordon passed six days after John did, on Aug 13, 2020. I miss him every day as I know you do John. My prayer is they are having a round of golf together in heaven. I hope you somehow see this as I don´t have your address. God bless you and your family. Sincerely, Kim Haywald

I knew John as MSGT Downey when I served with him at Andrews AFB from 1977-1982. John was a strong and fair leader, a wise teacher, mentor, and a professional man of honor and integrity. He was the best possible example to a young Airman on how a man should conduct himself. I am sorry to have just learned of his passing. God bless his soul and his entire family.
