Charles HIGGINS Obituary

HIGGINS, Charles Lewis Age 67, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on September 8, 2020. His smile, calm manner, and laughter could brighten a room and soothe the most aching hearts. His wit will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by many. Charles was born in Versailles, Kentucky, to Earl and Mary Higgins, on March 22, 1953. Charles graduated from Kentucky College of Technology with a degree in engineering. He retired as a network engineer for Premier Health in 2016. In his retirement, he continued to develop his passion of photography and was often hired as a photographer in his community. He was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, for 30 years. Among other roles, he served as a deacon, media ministry leader, and assistant church school superintendent. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Earl B. Higgins, Sr.; his mother, Mary B. Manns; and his sisters, Constance Brooks and Mary Mullins. He is survived by his wife, Georchia Higgins; his children, Shilonqua Lee, Isaac (Candice) Higgins, and Chanda (Robert) Brown; his grandchildren, Saniya Lee, Amaya Lee, Ryla Brown, and Caleb Brown; his siblings, Earl B. Higgins, Jr., Vivian Simmons, Eric Higgins, Sr., and Hazel Higgins; along with a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, family, and church-family members. I still miss you buddy!

I was taken aback by the news of Charles Higgins passing. I’ve known Charles for 35+ years. My heart is heavy as I reminisce about our times together. In the mid 80’s we both worked at InteCom in Texas. Our careers paths would intersect again in the 90’s at University of Cincinnati. Charles had a deep love for God and Family. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone. Always positive. Always finding the humor in any situation. Even though he was successful on many levels, he was humble and down to earth.
Although we live far apart, we would always check-in with each other and he’d always share how proud he was of his kids, and grandkids (as we got older). I remember our last visit a couple years ago. I can still see the gleam in his eyes when he talked about how he met the apple of his eye (Georchia)
I thank God for our times together and the friendship we had. And I pray that God will comfort Georchia, the Higgins family, and his friends during this time of grief. My sincere condolences to all who knew this remarkable man. Rest easy my friend.
