Lewis Leavitt Obituary

Lewis A. Leavitt III, MD
1954-2021
Father. Physician. Friend.

Lewis A Leavitt III, MD of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on September 17, 2021, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis A Leavitt, MD and Lorraine Hartung Leavitt. He leaves behind his three children, Lewis A Leavitt IV and wife, Lindsay; Christopher J. Leavitt and wife, Sarah; and Lauren M. Leavitt-Griffin, MD, and husband, Dallas; a sister, Jeanne Leavitt Harris and husband, Philip, of Granbury, Texas; seven grandchildren, many friends and fishing buddies. Upon graduation from Westchester High School in Houston, Texas, he attended Trinity University and later graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1981. Dr. Leavitt spent his life serving and healing others as an accomplished and respected emergency medicine physician. Such was his greatest passion. Aside from his profession, he enjoyed sports cars, fly fishing, exploring the outdoors, and spending time around the ocean. His children fondly recall their father's fast cars, loud rock music, and time spent together on the water. His ashes will be spread along the North Shore of Oahu, among the waves and waters he dearly loved.

I´m so very sorry to read of Dr. Leavitt´s passing. I worked with him for a couple of years in Corpus Christi, TX. He was a funny guy with a quick wit. We had a shared love of all music, art and cars. It was always a fun time working with him. Rest easy, Dr. Leavitt.

I work with Dr Leavitt when I was just a teen EMT in high school. He taught me so much even then. He was rough around the edges but clearly a kind soul inside. Many years later I know have my own practice but I still remember his name and things he taught me. He was so protective of his daughter too!! Many condolences.
