Betty CLEVELAND Obituary

CLEVELAND, Betty Ash

92, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on Monday,

November 8. Betty was born in Dayton, Ohio, on November 14, 1928, to the late Lloyd Ash and the late Mary (Karl) Keisewetter. Her brother, Gene Ash, preceded her in death. A sister, Kathryn Webb, survives.

She graduated from The Ohio State University, meeting her husband John in Spanish class. Before marriage, Betty worked at Halle Brothers in Cleveland, Ohio. After marriage she worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, where her husband was stationed during the Korean Conflict. Betty was a lifelong volunteer for a variety of organizations, holding many leadership roles. She had a love of

history and volunteered at the Warren County Museum in

Lebanon, Ohio, the St. Simon's Island Lighthouse, on St.

Simon's Island, Georgia, and the Newburgh Museum, Newburgh, IN. One of her major accomplishments was

restoring and researching the history of her home, The Dr. Mary Cook Homestead and the Doric Hill Homestead in Waynesville, Ohio. Both houses were placed on the National Register of Historic Homes.

More than anything Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John W. Cleveland. Surviving family includes son William James

Cleveland, son John Andrew Cleveland, "beloved daughter-in-law" Melody, daughter Margery Cleveland Gianopoulos and "favorite son-in-law" John, six grandchildren Elizabeth (Brad) Hardyman, Mary (Dan Peterson) Cleveland, Andrea (Jacob Niemeier) Cleveland, Michael (Sally) Gianopoulos, AJ

Gianopoulos, Sarah Gianopoulos (Dan) Paige and six great-grandchildren: Jack and Isabelle Anticoli, Cary and Andi

Peterson, and John and Liam Gianopoulos. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 am. on November 20, 2021, at Miami Cemetery in Corwin, Ohio followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 am.

Betty was an avid dog lover and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Warren County

Humane Society - homelesspets.org
