Today I called to check on Martha. Have been thinking about her so much. Hadn't visited her in a long time. I got cancer and was very sick for a long time. Then Covid came along and I couldn't go. I loved Martha. We were "partners" in animal rescue. When she was in the hospital, I felt it a privilege to stay with her. Just loved her sense of humor and we had some good times together in person and long phone chats as well. So sorry that I didn't know at the time of her passing. Thanks, Rita and Mark for looking after my friend.

Martha, my aunt, and I shared many happy memories. In the early 40's, Martha played women's softball with Betty Dillahunt, a friend throughout Marth's and my life. In the 50's, Martha managed a women's softball team named the Springfield Merchants and won the tournament. Her players were my sister, Sandy, Phyllis Pappert (Garlough), Anna Sherwood, Nancy Sherwood, Jan Sterling, Greta Nichols, Judy Walls, Louise Love, Sandy Millice, Barb Ropp, and Sandy Brandenburg. Martha also was an avid golfer playing many years with her friend Maxine Broderick and myself. She also loved to bowl and was on the International Harvester women's league for many years. Martha worked at IH for 30 years retiring when she was 48 years old. Her jobs were in Cost Accounting, Industrial Engineering, and Export on Sheridan Avenue. Martha had oodles of friends and one of her best friends was Alice Warner, a nurse at the Body Plant. One of Martha's loves, besides animals, was tennis which she started playing late in her life, and wished she had started playing earlier. Her favorite teammate was Dick Robison. Martha gave unselfishly her time to the Animal Welfare League and helped find homes for many dogs and cats. She took care of her Mother, my grandmother, and balanced her time with Grandma and the Animal Welfare league until Grandma needed more care and Martha upon encouragement from my Mother found a wonderful lady to help Grandma daily - cooked and cleaned and saw to it that Grandma was well provided for. The lady's name was Mary and I'm forever grateful to this very nice lady. I am also grateful to Rita Risha whom was designated her guardian until my cousin, Mark Enderle was designated, and Jennifer Steffani and the nurses and caregivers at Good Sheppard Nursing home for their excellent care for Martha. I have alot of wonderful memories of Martha and I to draw upon.

Martha loved and cared for so many animals in her home and at the AWL farm for many years. She had such a loving heart for all creatures. May she truly rest is peace.
