I´m just learning of Coach Slattery´s passing - I was sharing stories with my wife and looked him up, and here we are. Coach was such a huge influence on my life, and well beyond throwing a shot put. He was such a kind man and truly led by example, and I am so grateful to have had him as a coach and teacher. He was one of the best, and I will always cherish my memories of him during my time in Guilderland.

A great guy and coach. 30+ years later I still hold on to great memories of him as my coach. I wish I knew back then we were both V.I. kids we could have traded stories about the nuns...

Dear Slattery family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Denis came to visit us in Boston in 2001. It was quite a memorable visit because we laughed so hard (football-related and other) as he entertained us with his considerable wit. He certainly lived large.
Deepest sympathies,
Clare Fleishman

Slatts, had the greatest sense of humor. He was one of the really nice, good guys at VI.
Sports were his love and God, seemed to always work his way into the conversation.

Rest in Peace, you have earned it.

Denis was the star quarterback and our leader on the undefeated Vincentian Institute (VI) football team of 1958. In fact, whatever the sport, Denis was the best. My memories of Denis are all positive, growing up with our friends and relatives in the Pine Hills neighborhood and attending VI and St. Vincent de Paul Church together. My sincere condolences to Denis' family, Gerry Conway
