Denis Patrick Slattery

Slattery, Denis Patrick ALBANY Denis P. Slattery, 82 of Albany, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2022, surrounded by his family. Denis was born in Albany to John and Angeline (McCabe) Slattery. He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute in 1958. "Slatts" was selected as a High School All-American and an All-Albany Quarterback he was also inducted into the Albany Catholic Schools Hall of Fame. Denis went on to graduate from Ithaca College where he was a star quarterback for the Bombers. He then began his over 30 year career as a respected teacher and dedicated coach in the Guilderland Central School District. Denis's interests included a love of the outdoors, building a log cabin in the Adirondacks, constructing a classic cottage in Ireland, and enjoying a quaint country residence in the Catskills all of which he shared with family and friends. His faith was formed at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, yet there was not a Catholic church in the city of Albany that Denis did not attend. He was predeceased by his daughter, Geraldine Maura; parents, John and Angeline, and brother Michael (Cheryl) Slattery. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Schwan (Peter), Erin Pritchard (Charles), Molly Whalen (Michael), Denis (Christine), Michael, Kara, Mary McCarthy (William). He was one of seven Slattery children and is survived by Anne Fleishman (Anthony), John, Frank (Linda), Ellen Pistana, Carol Smith (James). Denis was blessed with 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Denis's family on Wednesday, October 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, Albany. His funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 a.m. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow his Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
