Emma Bonner Obituary

Emma Lynette Bonner
08/11/1928 - 02/21/2023
Emma Lynette Bonner was born August 11, 1928, to beloved parents Linzie Rogers and Maudess Thornton Rogers in Houston, Texas. She departed this life on Tuesday February 21, 2023. She was the third oldest of eight children raised from this union. She leaves to mourn a brother, Linzie Rogers Jr. and a sister Clara Mayfield. She was preceded in death by siblings: Lillian Rogers, Elizabeth Peters, Janie Ward, Eddie Bernice Hill, and Clifton Rogers.
She met her former husband, Abner Bonner while working in Longview Texas as a School Nurse. She is survived by five children raised from this union: Dr. Kenneth Bonner (Los Angeles, California), Michael Bonner (Houston, Texas), Hiram Bonner (Houston, Texas), Cheryl Daniels (Houston, Texas) and Darryl Bonner (Oakridge, Tennessee), daughter-in-law Jeanie Bonner and a son-in-law Dr. Hemansu Mangal. She leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
Emma Bonner graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans Louisiana, and she went on to receive her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Kansas City General Hospital No.2, Kansas City, Missouri. She obtained her Registered Nurse certification in 1950. She worked for more than sixty years as a nursing professional in private duty nursing and several hospitals around Houston during her career later retiring from Jefferson Davis hospital.
She was a faithful member of Reverend W. D. Richardson Court of Calanthe #320, Faithful Warriors Sunday School Class, and Baptist Women Two Mission. In her retirement she focused on involvement in a number of church organizations, scholarship funds, and activities at Brentwood Baptist Church. She loved reading the Bible and sharing her favorite scriptures with anyone she thought could benefit from the Word of God. Her hobbies included finding treasures in Resale shops, Quilting and writing cards and letters to family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, excellence and accomplishments.
Services for Mrs. Bonner will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Brentwood Baptist Church, Houston, TX at 11:00 am., with a burial to follow at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, TX.

I thank God for the privilege to have met such a Christian woman, Aunt Lynette (my late wife's, Madelyn Maudess's, aunt). I pray God's strength, comfort, and peace for my father-in-law, Linzie Rogers, her family, friends, and beloved ones during this time of bereavement.
