Cheryl Anderson Obituary

vB, Sun-13-Aug-2023, Ray Bruns

Cheryl Jean Anderson breathed her last and died in her sleep of 7-years of cancer in Hospice of Dayton at 2:55-am Th-3-Aug-2023. She´d been in hospice for 5-days always sleeping peacefully and not responding due to all her cancer pain drugs. She seemed like just a breathing corpse, but the nurses said in that state Cheryl could hear and process information.

I was the only one in her room when she died, but I was just sleeping in the chair next to her bed. The nurse, Monica, came for a routine check and noticed she was breathing poorly about 15-minutes before Cheryl died. The nurse returned with an extra blanket and Cheryl had stopped breathing.

Cheryl´s two sisters, Janice and Joanie, her brother, Keith, and her niece, Leslie, came quickly. We said prayers until they left at 4:40. I then wrote a text to my family.

Cheryl´s was born 5-Jan-1949, so she was 74.6-years-old. She was the oldest of 5-children of James and Betty Downing Anderson. She was close to her maternal grandmother, Mary Downing, of Anderson Indiana, and summer vacations there with her grandmother and Uncle James were her fondest memories. She enjoyed reunions with the dispersed Downing family. She graduated from Resurrection grade school, from Julienne HS in 1967, and she earned an associates degree in computer programing from Sinclair CC.

Cheryl lived her entire life in Dayton. She grew up on Kammer Avenue. Bought her own house at 212 Anna, and bought a condo for herself and her mother in Huber Heights. The 212-Anna home was only a block from her Parish then, Resurrection, and she was active caring for the grotto, singing in the choir, and conducting bingo. Her brother, Keith, now owns the Kammer home, and her niece, Leslie, now owns the 212-Anna street home. Both those family retentions greatly pleased Cheryl.

Cheryl ryl was proud of her condo Her mother, Betty, lived in the master bedroom to the end, sewing and watching court television. PShe had her own bathroom and walk-in closet.

Cheryl doubled the attic size. She installed the special countertop she'd always dreamed of.

Cheryl was the oldest of 5. Her sister Margo died about 15-years-ago. Janice, Joanie, and Keith survive. She enjoyed helping raise her 2-nephews, Lee and Adam Rucker, and her 2-nieces, Ronika Knight and Leslie Rucker.

She loved her dogs. Bruno the shepherd, of Kammer; Sig and Sebby, more shepherds, of Anna; Clayborne the Poodle of Anna; Cricket, the poodle of the condo, Newt-Newt, the little white dog; and Ace, the little medical needs dog of the condo. After Clayborne died, Cheryl had a dream that Claiborne came back to her bedroom to help her sleep. But Cheryl told him he´d have to go help the angels sleep now. Claiborne turned and sadly left her bedroom.

She worked at Standard Register, at Mead Data Systems, and at Peak Measure. Her last job, processing orders and working with customers for Peak Measure, was her favorite. She tele-worked in her office in her upstairs bedroom with Peak Measure customers, primarily utilities, on orders for electrical power equipment. Altho she never met most of those customers in person, they were good friends. Only her cancer forced her to retire.

Cheryl´s viewing and Funeral will be Monday Morning, 14-Aug. The viewing will be at 9-am and her funeral mass will be 10-am at her church, St Joseph´s, on East Second St on the eastern edge of downtown Dayton. Cheryl had the funeral mass for her mother there about 3-years-ago. Cheryl's burial will be in section-45 of the northwest corner of Calvary cemetery.

Although we are not related by blood Cheryl has been a significant part of our family. She was Aunt Cheryl, who along with Ray, brought Adam, Lee and Leslie to visit with our family and cousins. She took them to amusement parks, roller skating, sporting events and had activities and craft projects to keep a houseful of children entertained. Cheryl attended our annual family Cumberland Lake vacations despite being afraid of the water just to be with all of us. She was a giving and thoughtful woman who lived her Catholic faith. Cheryl worked hard and took pride in her accomplishments. She loved her family, dogs, church and projects. She fought her battle with cancer for many years but kept her faith. Rest in peace Cheryl. You will be remembered fondly by the extended Bruns family.
