Rudolph Yurkevicz Obituary

Rudolph Yurkevicz

Hatfield, MA - Rudolph "Rudy" Yurkevicz, 91, a long-time resident of Hatfield, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Born in Sunderland, MA on April 15, 1932, to the late Michael and Anna (Shatynski) Yurkevicz, he attended Sunderland schools along with Smith Vocational. He later served in the U.S. Army and was rated first class as an expert rifleman.

He was a hardworking man supporting his family of 6 with two jobs. He became a barber and built his own barbershop in the town of Sunderland where he grew up. He was also the head custodian at the University of MA for 32 years before his retirement in 1994.

In 1960, he married his forever wife Stacia, and celebrated 63 years of marriage. Hatfield is where he called home and raised his family. He loved the outdoors and could see Mount Sugarloaf from his backyard. This is where he felt most at peace. Rudy, as he was known to everyone, liked to hunt and fish, garden, and watch war and western movies. He also loved his polish music and dancing.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Stacia (Krol) Yurkevicz, his four loving children, Cheryl Hoey and her husband Rick, Ann Longley and her husband Gary, Kevin Yurkevicz and his wife Liz, and Gary Yurkevicz and his wife Jackie, his three grandchildren, Michael, Craig, and Matthew.

Besides his parents, Michael, and Anna, he was predeceased by his brothers, Roman, Louis, and Roger, his sisters, Jenny Michalak and Tappy Bai.

The family would like to thank the following caregivers for their great care and service; the Veterans' Association, VNA & Hospice nurses, and the Hatfield Police and Fire Departments.

All services and burial will be private to family. DROZDAL FUNERAL OF NORTHAMPTON has been entrusted with his services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rudy's memory to HomeFront Strong, P.O. Box 903, Palmer, MA 01069.
