Dwayne Lamar Brewington

Quincy, FL - We mourn the loss of Dwayne Lamar "Big Brew" Brewington, a stalwart of justice and love, who passed on January 3rd. Born in Quincy, Florida, Dwayne was a magnanimous figure in his community, known for his relentless pursuit of justice, fierce love, and unyielding belief in progress. With his wife, LaWanza, he founded impactful organizations like the Discrimination Prevention Project and Plain Talk Consultants, advocating for equality and education. A proud Alpha Phi Alpha member and lifelong Miami Dolphins fan, Dwayne was also a devoted family man, leaving behind his wife, son Danton Lamar, and daughter Maya.

Dwayne's life was a beacon of hope and strength, challenging discrimination, and empowering others with his unwavering spirit. His legacy of action, love, and commitment to a fairer society endures, inspiring all who knew him. Donations can be directed to the Werd Entertainment Production Fund, Street2Ivy, The Doorways, and Mayadan Consulting Arts and Theatre programs to honor his life's work.

A memorial service will be held in Suffolk, Virginia, on January 11th, followed by his laying to rest in Quincy, Florida, on January 20th at First Elizabeth Baptist Church. Dwayne's profound impact will be forever cherished.

Dearest LaWanza, Danton & Maya, I was so saddened to come across the news of Dwane´s death. I had just been thinking about you all when I told a friend the story of watching Star Wars with LaWanza and Maya. I know the grief and heartbreak. Grief does feel less traumatic over time but three years after Mikes death I still feel the heartbreak and loss. I had the utmost respect for Dwayne and Lawanza and all the hard work they did combatting racism here in the Pioneer Valley. They were some of the finest people I have ever met.
