George Brosky Obituary

George B. Brosky, Jr.

Orange, CT - George B. Brosky Jr., 91, recently of Orange CT, but a prior resident of Greenfield MA for over 50 years, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York on October 24, 1932, the son of George Sr. and Katherine (Birkemeir) Brosky. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, and graduated from The Cooper Union in 1954, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. George went on to receive a Master of Arts in Business Administration from New York University and later achieved his Professional Engineering License.

In 1957, he married the love of his life, Anne "Nan" McCabe. They began their life in Bethpage, NY with George working as an engineer for Con Edison. After countless hours spent commuting to New York City on the Long Island Expressway, they decided to make a change. In 1969, George, Nan, and JoAnne moved to Greenfield, after he accepted a job for Northeast Utilities. This is where they raised their three children. He was hired as the Resident Engineer for the construction of the Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Facility. He loved the area so much that upon completion he remained as Manager of the Recreation and Environmental Facility at Northfield Mountain until his retirement in 1997. After retirement he worked part-time for the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), responding to natural disasters around the country.

George served as a member of the Greenfield Town Council and then as Selectman from 1991-1994. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Church as a Religious Education teacher for the confirmation class, and a Eucharistic Minister serving at Mass and bringing to the homebound and Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

If you happened to stop by the Brosky house at cocktail hour, there were always hors d' oeuvres, lively conversation, and a cocktail or two. Although he preferred a Manhattan, George spent many years perfecting the Cosmo for his wife and daughters.

During his days in Greenfield, George could be found running around town fulfilling his daily Honey-Do Lists and making numerous runs to the dump with the sticks and pinecones from his yard.

Geroge enjoyed spending time with his family. Whether it was the many trips to Key Largo, Florida, Gilbert Lake State Park or just playing bocce in the backyard. You could also find George relaxing in his chair, with a Manhattan, watching The Five.

George leaves his daughters; JoAnne Muench and her husband Larry of Medway, MA. Jane Sender and her husband Aaron of Orange, CT; his grandchildren David Muench and his wife Becky, Kevin Muench, Eric Muench and his wife Meagan and Lauren and Samuel Sender. George also leaves his sisters-in-law; Hildegard Brosky and Maureen Brosky, brother-in-law James McCabe and his wife Jan and his sister-in-law Jane McCabe, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Anne (Nan), his son George Brosky III, and his brothers William and Gerald.

George moved to Orange, CT to live with his daughter and her family after the death of his wife in 2020, but in his heart never left Greenfield which will always be his one true home.

Calling hours will be held Friday evening 1/19/2024 at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Services will be Saturday January 20, 2024 at 9:45 AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Church 133 Main St. Greenfield. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

My deepest sympathies go out to George`s family. I had the pleasure of meeting George and Nan when they lived next door to my brother Thomas Till and his wife Mary Lou. He will be missed by so many.

I was very sorry to learn of George's passing. He was our boss at Northfield Mountain and was always very fair in all his dealings with our staff, the public and all the organizations in which he was involved. Alice and I will made a donation to Yale in his memory and we offer our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
