Gail Taylor Obituary

Gail Humphreys Taylor

Old Town, ME - Old Town --Gail H. Taylor, 87, passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 16, 2024, after a battle with Cancer. She was born on April 11,1936, in Concord New Hampshire, the daughter of Everett and Eleanor (Gerrish) Humphreys.

Gail spent eight summers at Camp Huckins at Lake Ossipee in New Hampshire while she was growing up. She started out as a camper and then moved on to Jr. Counselor and then Counselor. She then went on to become a certified lifeguard and enjoyed her lifeguard duty at the Concord Recreational Department.

Gail spent her childhood years in the Concord School System (K-10) and then went on to St. Mary's School, a College Prep School, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for two years where she graduated in 1954. Gail then spent a year at LaSalle Jr. College in Massachusetts before transferring to Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts where she received her BA in Recreation and Youth Leadership in 1959.

Gail met the love of her life, Edward Taylor, while at Springfield College. They were voted Football Homecoming King and Queen their Junior year. Ed and Gail married in August 1958 and had 65 wonderful years together. After graduation, Ed and Gail moved to New Hartford, NY where they lived for 19 years and made some very special friendships. In 1978, they moved to Old Town, Maine, where Ed had been born and raised.

Gail loved being a Coach's wife and was Ed's biggest cheerleader. She enjoyed summers relaxing at Beech Hill Pond in Otis, Maine with her family. In retirement years, Gail and Ed spent winters in Florida among dear friends. Gail will be best known for her devotion to her family; a loving mother, grandmother and most of all, a loving wife.

Gail will be sadly missed by her husband, Ed; daughters, Debbie Taylor of Old Town, Carol Rice and husband, Bob, of Clearwater, Florida and Beech Hill Pond in Otis, Maine; grandchildren, Stephanie Prendergast, Staci Demarest, Brian Rice and Matthew

Rice. She is also survived by sister, Jemi Howell of Marlborough, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her parents Everett and Eleanor Humphreys and her sister Sally Nicoll.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to Doug and Holly Chappelle for all of their compassion and support and would also like to thank Northern Light Hospice Care.
