Sandra McCulloch-Schmidt Obituary

Sandra McCulloch-Schmidt

South Deerfield, MA - Sandra Lyn McCulloch-Schmidt, born on August 24, 1963, in Bourne, MA, peacefully departed this world on January 20, 2024, at the age of 60. A compassionate soul and a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Sandra, affectionately known as Sandi, spent her life caring for others as a home aid and nurse. She graduated from Bourne High School in 1981 and then got her Medical Assistant (MA) certificate at Holyoke Community College.

Sandi was the youngest of four siblings, survived by her siblings Deb McCulloch, Mark McCulloch, and Mitch McCulloch. She was born to her loving parents, Donald Orvelle McCulloch and Corrinne Gay Hain, who have since passed away. She leaves behind her daughter, Alexandra Corrinne Schmidt, aged 22, who resides in Cambridge, MA. Sandra's brief marriage to Robert Nicholas Schmidt brought forth the blessing of their beloved daughter, Alex.

Sandi's love extended beyond her human family; it embraced her cherished pets, Peanut, a long-haired Dachshund mix, and Kitty, a stray black cat. Kitty's penchant for showing up at her house until she adopted him, reflected the enduring bond between them and Sandi's deep love for animals.

A proud veteran, Sandi served in the Air Force and worked for the National Guard at Otis in the 102d "Eagle Keepers" Squadron. Her dedication to caring for others continued even after her military service, leaving a lasting impact on those whose lives she touched.

Beyond her professional and military life, Sandi reveled in simple pleasures. Her love for movies, music, and dancing was a testament to her vibrant spirit and appreciation for the arts. Those close to her fondly remember her unique sense of humor, highlighted by the infamous deviled eggs incident – a story of cinnamon replacing paprika, a tale that brought laughter to many gatherings.

Sandi's roots were firmly planted on Cape Cod, where she spent her childhood and formed enduring connections. She moved to western Massachusetts to raise her daughter in 2003 and has lived there ever since. She passed away peacefully at her home in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. As a tribute to her memory, a memorial service will be held on February 3, 2024, at the Florence Civic Center at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a GoFundMe for Alex (https://gofund.me/fba0fc0d) or Dakin Humane Society.

As we gather to remember Sandra Lyn McCulloch-Schmidt, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, compassion, and the warmth she brought to all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace.
