Larry Davis Obituary

Larry Christopher Davis, fondly known as Chris to all who knew and loved him, including numerous fur babies, passed away Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at age 52. Chris grew up in Memphis, graduated from Craigmont High School in 1989 and attended the University of Memphis, majoring in Performance Arts.

Chris leaves his parents, Dianne and Larry Davis of Sardis, MS, a sister, Brooke Patrick, also of Sardis, MS, a brother, Scott Davis (Tina) of Truman, AR a nephew, Dorian Davis, two nieces, Bronwen and Midori Davis and his life-partner, Jeron Smart of Memphis.

Chris worked in multiple professions from a movie cinema usher as a teen to the Orpheum as a young adult. He was also a successful shopkeeper before finding his true passion when he began working at Dog's Rule. He was the best servant a dog could have; he was their chauffeur, walked and played with them, house sat them and entertained them daily at Dog's Rule while singing Broadway show tunes to them. Dogs were human to Chris.

A kind and gentle soul, Chris had a contagious laugh that spread to everyone around him. A masterful storyteller, Chris could imitate most anyone and play multiple roles, all the while, drawing you into his story as you listened.

Chris and Jeron traveled frequently with a well-planned spreadsheet of "musts", all researched by Chris so not to miss anything. If Chris was around, you didn't need Siri, Alexis or Google – he was a walking encyclopedia. He could quote movie lines, commercial taglines and Broadway show tunes rapid fire. His partner, Jeron, was "fluent" in gospel music until Chris found a Baptist Hymnal and revealed the actual words; Ummm… just a tad off. And that was Chris.

Chris was truly pure light and joy.

Chris was such a light. When I brought my dogs to Dogs Rule, and Chris was there, even if I felt stressed or hurried, his smile and greeting made me smile. The highlight of my dog Sonya´s life was the one time she got to ride the dog bus with Chris. May his memory be for a blessing.

Chris looked after our dog and cat for many years. He was always quick and happy to oblige. He looked after our neighbor's cats and we frequently ran into him when he brought dogs home from Dogs Rule. He was always friendly and smiling. We extend our sympathy to Jeron, his family and friends.

I met Chris in the early 90's. He was the kindest, loyal and true friends that anyone could ever have. He has a wicked sense of humor and we often laughed about jokes and things that happened decades ago. He was truly selfless to those he loved. My life is richer because I knew Chris and was so truly fortunate to share 3 decades of friendship with him. I know he's smiling down upon us and worried about everyone still.

I heard someone say that the length of time we have known a person is insignificant compared the time we morn for them. He will be missed by many.

Fly High Chris until we meet again.

I went to high school with Chris and lost touch after graduation. I´ve thought of him often and fondly over the years as he was always one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I´ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I´m so sorry to hear of his passing and want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Jeron, Chris´s family and those that were fortunate enough to be his friend.

I am deeply saddened and SHOCKED to hear of Chris´ passing. I don´t think I ever saw Chris without a BIG Smile on his face. He was always jovial, outgoing, and loved his time with his furry friends, and they loved him!! Chris will be deeply missed by all of us and ALL his four-legged friends. I am so very sorry for your loss, as well as OUR loss of this very special guy. Jeron and Chris' entire family will be in my prayers for comfort, peace, and a healing heart. May God bless you and wrap his arms around you.
Peace, Love, & Friendship.

Truer words have never been written. As a neighbor, I had the treat of hearing Chris sing, laugh, and play with the animals he loved. Each time he was in his back courtyard, a show was being performed. We were on the other side of the wall that separated our homes, so often entertained with his singing and laughter. He will be missed, a very special man.

Chris and Jeron were among the 1st people I met when I moved to Windover Grove in 2015. We became fast friends bonding over our love for fur babies, Broadway shows, Diet Coke and margaritas. My Coco will miss Chris and his endless supply of dog treats, as much as I will miss his story telling, friendship, and laughter. I will have your smile forever engraved in my memory. Grace, love, and peace to your family and Jeron.
