Shirley Thomas Obituary

Shirley McKinnie Thomas, age 88, resident of Eads, Tennessee and wife of Tate Thomas, departed this life Wednesday morning, February 7, 2024 at her home.

Shirley was born March 9, 1935 in Germantown, Tennessee, the daughter of the late James D. McKinnie and Annie Pate Gill McKinnie. She graduated from Collierville High School and was married August 20, 1954 to Tate Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was most recently a resident of the Fisherville Community and was a member of First Baptist Church Fisherville where she served as church secretary. Shirley was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and enjoyed reading, cooking, flowers and her horses, especially "Flicka".

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband of 69 years, Tate Thomas of Eads, TN; her daughter, Suzanne McCurdy (Bob) of Dyer, TN; two sons, David Tate Thomas of Eads, TN and Nathan Thomas (Kim) of Williston, TN; her sister, Joy Patricia Webb of Somerville, TN; five grandchildren, James D. McCurdy (Vicky) of Starkville, MS, Thomas R. McCurdy (Katie) of San Diego, CA, Brandon Thomas (Shelbie) of Collierville, TN, Adam Thomas (Jessica) of Oakland, TN and Liz Dodd (Ben) of Dyer, TN; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jim Ann Perkins.

A visitation for Mrs. Thomas will be from 1 to 2 P.M. Friday, February 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church Fisherville. Funeral Services will be at 2 P.M. Friday, February 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church Fisherville. The officiating ministers will be Bro. Jack Moore and Bro. Jeff James. Interment will follow in Fisherville Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be James McCurdy, Ben Dodd, Brandon Thomas, Billy Beeson, Bobby Spencer and Bert Perkins.


The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church Fisherville, 11893 Macon Road, Eads, TN 38028 or St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center and condolences may be left on our online guestbook at www.PeeblesFuneralHome.com.

My thoughts and prayers are with my brother Tate, and
Suzanne, David and Nat as they grieve. Shirley was a part of our family for almost 70 years and I have many memories of times shared. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother and friend. I am blessed she was part of my life.
