Kristin Cheatwood and Eric Cheatwood,
I miss Debbie. I have missed her for a few years now. My heart aches for you two. You have done such an amazing job managing her care. We could all only hope to have an Eric and Kristen in our lives when the time comes.
Your mother was a special woman with an exceptionally gentle soul. She dearly loved her children, her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She was most proud of being a mom, more than anything else in her life.
She was an amazing sister to her brother Gene. She was always there unconditionally when he needed her. That was one of her strengths....unconditional love.
Debbie has been a dear friend to me for nearly 60 years. We go back to our early high school days. A bond developed between us that I have never really experienced with any other friend. A wonderful comforting feeling knowing that she was always there. We knew each better than anyone else I can think of.
We went to Europe together, right out of high school on the then popular concept of "Europe on $5 a Day". We toured ALL of Europe in a bubble shaped vintage trailer pulled by a Volkswagen for 3-1/2 months. (it was during Watergate.....we were happy to be removed from it all ) The trailer me VW were loaned to us by our friend Dave Bickers (the European Motcross Racer. ) We even went to some MX races while over there. We had great fun in the motorcycle days.
We moved out together after high school and had our first apartment in Jacksonville ,Florida.....and later roomies back in Atlanta. So much fun !!!!!!
Prior to Debbie´s dementia, we would talk on the phone a lot and reminisce about old times. She used to say "we sure have had a lot of good times". We would laugh at some of our sillier times.
We checked her out of her assisted living once to go spend a weekend at my sister Renae´s house on the lake. She was the fourth sister in our family. My parents loved her as if she truly was their child. And how special that you two grew up with my nieces and nephews. Always extended family.
Debbie and I shared all of our highs and lows as teenagers me grown women......the highs always outweighed the lows.
I proudly walked Debbie down the aisle at Eric´s wedding in Austin, TX. It felt so natural to do so !!!! I was so happy to be part of her special day. She was beaming with pride.
I love you Dos Debbie. (Malcolm Smith called us Dos Debbie´s.....we were inseparable). I know you are up in heaven with Jim Lewis, and I am hoping you two will be living it up again. Jim loved you dearly
You will always live in my heart.
My very best to you Eric and Kristen. Your mom was always so proud of you both. You were truly her purpose in life.
