Edmond P. Gaudette

Enfield, NH - Edmond P. Gaudette, 86, died Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.

He was born December 3, 1937, in Hanover, NH, a son of Francis Charles and Jeanne Bertha (Thibodeau) Gaudette. Ed grew up in Hartford Village and graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1956. After high school he worked at area grocery stores including Aher's Store in Hartford Village. He served in the US Army from 1963 until 1965 and following his honorable discharge he returned to Hartford and continued working at Aher's store. He later worked in receiving at Shopping International in Norwich until they closed, and he began his career as a purchasing agent, first at the Hanover Inn and later at the Ascutney Mountain Resort in Brownsville. He then returned to Dartmouth where he worked as a custodian until retiring in 2002.

In his free time Ed enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing and trips on his Honda Goldwing and going to hunting camp with friends. He fished the lakes of Vermont and New Hampshire, especially Champlain, Winnipesaukee and Newfound Lake. He organized the kid's fishing derby for the Hartford Rod and Gun Club for many years and competed in many fishing tournaments around the Twin States, including winning a boat at the Winni Derby in 1996. Ed was also an accomplished cribbage player and not only competed in tournaments but organized them for the Vermont State Elks. He began singing in the choir at St. Anthony Church while in high school and continued singing there all his life, serving as a cantor for thirty-five years.

Ed was a communicant of St. Anthony Church all his life, a life member of Post 22 American Legion in Lebanon and the Elks Lodge in Windsor, VT; a member of the Hartford Rod & Gun Club and a past member of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department, receiving recognition for twenty-five years of service in 1987.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Merylene Morse Simonds of Windsor; his daughters, Barbara Gaudette of Enfield, Ellen Scelza of Oregon, Vicki Thornton of Chester, VT, Beverly Owen of White River Jct., and Jennifer Nelson (Doug) of Bath, ME, 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Becker of North Carolina as well as several close lifelong friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19th from 4-6PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated later in the spring, at a time to be announced, at St. Anthony Church in White River Jct., with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
