Gol Hashimi Obituary

Gol Makay Hashimi

Florence, MA - The family of Gol Makay Hashimi announces her untimely passing at the age of 83 on February 8, 2024, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born March 15, 1940 in Kabul, Afghanistan, she completed her medical studies there and became one of the first female physicians at the time, specializing as an ENT (ears, nose, and throat physician) beginning her medical career at Kabul University. From there, she transferred to Avicenna Medical Hospital in Kabul where she became the head of the ENT Department. She would work there with her future husband, Mir Hashimi MD. After marrying, she and Mir moved to London, England and then to the United States where they started their family and ultimately settled in Florence, MA. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved family, including her husband of 52 years, Mir Hashimi; her son, Hassan Hashimi, her daughter-in-law, Barbora Schelová, both of the Czech Republic; her daughter, Leila Hashimi Malone, and her son-in-law, Aaron Malone, both of Cambridge, MA. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Alexander Hashimi and Auden Malone. Gol Makay was, in addition, beloved by so many close family members and friends.

The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the wonderful staff at the Critical Care Unit of Cooley Dickinson Hospital in her final days.

In addition to the funeral services, a memorial service and reception were held, along with interment taking place in the family plot in Alexandria, Virginia. To cherish her memory, the family is asking that any donations be made to the Northampton Food Bank/Survival Center, 265 Prospect Street, Northampton, MA 01060 (tel 413-586-6564).
