Bernice was a loving individual whose creativity showed in her writing, sewing, painting, cooking, and the jewelry she made for family and friends. She was great at learning carpentry, and other skills to save money. Having experienced tough times, she was giving to others and had a knack for survival where her children learned to persevere and overcome challenges. Some of her favorite sayings were, "when you get lemons, make lemonade" and "when one door closes, another door opens" and "there is always room for one more at the table", as she had an open door for friends and family. She was a born-again Christian and loved the Lord, being surrounded by family and friends, and was a caretaker at heart. She especially loved her grandchildren and spending time with them.
