John William Mccabe

1935 - 2024

Concord, NH - CONCORD – John William (Jack) McCabe, passed away on Sunday March 24th, 2024 due to a series of illnesses. He was born in Portland, ME on August 29th, 1935 to Martin Sr. and Helen McCabe. He was the fifth of seven children. Jack graduated from Cheverus High School in 1953. At Cheverus he started at 2nd base on the class L team as a freshman and point guard on the basketball team as a senior. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jack was commanded to Camp Desert Rock and participated in groundbreaking nuclear testing.

Upon discharge on February 29th, 1956 he attended the University of Maine Orono from September 1956 to June 1960. At the University he was President of national fraternity Kappa Sigma, Vice President of interfraternal council, representative of the senior class of 1960 and member of the Black Bear baseball team. Upon graduation he went to work in the insurance industry.

Jack was named outstanding field representative in 1964 by Peerless Insurance Company. In 1968 Jack became President of New Hampshire Association of Insurance Agents. Jack had a long and successful career in the insurance industry and retired 26 years later at the age of 60.

Jack is survived by his daughter; Kathleen, son; Kevin, and three granddaughters. His loving wife of 51 years passed away in June of 2019.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at (St. Johns) Christ the King Parish will be celebrated on Wednesday April 3rd, at 10:00 am. His burial will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home 209 N. Main St. Concord, NH 03301.
