Mary Vassar Obituary

Mary Louise Garrett Vassar, 97, of Germantown, TN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 30, 2024.

She was born on August 13, 1926 in Flora, Mississippi to John Ray Garrett Sr. and Ina Mae Dubose Garrett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52, years George Stanley Vassar Sr., her brothers John Ray Garrett Jr. and Harmon Garrett, and daughter-in-law René Vassar.

She is survived by her children Marsha Simmons (Mike), Stan Vassar, Tim Vassar (Kay), and Trisha Dorris (David). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (1 on the way), 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister Elizabeth Nobles.

She loved her family and devoted her life to them. She was also an accomplished musician, dedicated Bible teacher, charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and more recently a faithful member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends from 1 pm until 2 pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Road in Bartlett. A private graveside service will follow.
