Lenita Hoglund Obituary

Lenita Hoglund

Concord, NH - Avid crossword puzzler, Wordler, and completer of ridiculously complex jigsaw puzzles, the beloved matriarch of her family Lenita "Neetie" (Lugg) Hoglund sewed, knitted and quilted the way through her life and the lives of many others she touched for 92 years. Born on March 28,1932 in New Hampshire as the seventh of eight of George J. and Rose A. (Mooney) Lugg's children, Lenita grew up as a Concord gal and returned to live in her hometown in her eighties. She died on the night of April 17, 2024 in the care of the wonderful Concord Hospital staff and under the loving watchful eyes of her children John and Sheila (recently passed) Hoglund, Mary and Michelle Hoglund-McGuirk and Lyn and Gary Koutcher. Her husband of 64 years, Noel O. Hoglund died a few years ago. Her grandchildren, Leo Oscar and Sophie Rose Hoglund-McGuirk have been the light and pride of her life for the past 20 years.

Growing up on Airport Road, Neetie had a fun-filled childhood in a busy household full of siblings and friends. She followed in her sisters' footsteps as valedictorian of her class at St. John's High School. She continued her education at secretarial school in Boston where her apartment next to Government Square cost $5 per month. She found employment with Wesley Powell, future governor of New Hampshire and got to know his family well at their beautiful home in Hampton Falls. Neetie met her future husband, Noel, at a dance hall in Hampton Beach. They wed on January 26, 1957 at Immaculate Heart of Mary with Neetie and her attendants dressed in beautiful gowns sewn by her eldest sister Velma Moran. Neetie and Noel took off on an adventure, living in many locations as they followed his early career. Her meticulous scrapbooks of these times show the fun spirit that they both held throughout their lives.

Neetie and Noel finally settled outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where they raised their children. Neetie found a large circle of friends through common interests in sewing, school and neighborhood activities, and especially tennis. She never turned down requests for seamstress work, but also never in her life accepted payment for her skilled handiwork.

She and Noel moved to St. Cloud Florida, a lovely home for 27 years, and a base from which they traveled for many elder hostels and family visits. Neetie visited every state, many more than once, and traveled abroad with her sister Stellie Colby and others. Back home, Neetie and Noel enjoyed special trips to the casinos where she played penny machines and read novels in lovely locations.

Finally, at her insistence, Neetie and Noel returned to her hometown in Concord, New Hampshire where they would spend many years enjoying social outings and quality time with her siblings and large extended family. Her joy came from car trips with her brother Gene Lugg and his wife and her best friend Nancy (Cross) Lugg, days spent at York Beach with family and friends, and time spent with her son, his wife and her granddogs, the corgis Elden, then Indie. Neetie embraced one last community, the awesome folks at Heritage Heights, where she spent a short but fulfilling time joining in on the knitting group, movie nights and other social activities.

A visiting hour will be held on Friday (4/26) from 11AM to 12 Noon at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord, NH.

Burial will be in the Blossom Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to https://giveto.concordhospital.org/give-now/spirit-of-giving.

It is hard to believe this year has come and gone . The thoughts of Neetie keeping us strong , being an example of a kind , loving and caring person, inspire me and give me comfort so many days . She was there to help us through a really difficult path with my mom ( and she was there for her always ) We could see and feel her love for my dad and for all of us , and for that there are no words .I miss her very much and think of all of you and how hard this year has been . Praying you find comfort and strength with each other She will never be gone because of the place she holds in our hearts ! Love you all

John, Mary & Lyn. The best result of the "apartment" years was getting to know Neetie better. Safe to say, she´s my role model. I loved her dearly. Going to miss her terribly..

My sincere condolences to John, Mary and Lyn on the death of your mother. Neetie was my first cousin and I have many memories of her laughter and boundless energy when I would visit in NH. This month's solar eclipse brought back memories of a similar happening in PEI back in 1972 when Neetie and Noel came to the Island to view it.

Sorry too hear about the loss of Lanita.
She was my neighbor, across the hall, at Center Stone. We often spent time chatting. I was always asking advice about sewing projects. She will be missed.

I´m so sorry about the loss of your mom. Your parents were favorites of mine when I worked at the Payson Cancer Center. They even sent me flowers at one time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of hardship. Prayers Erica Sheppard

My condolences to John, Mary, and Lyn,

I have vivid memories of Aunt Neetie by the pool in Laconia. Never saw her frown and she would greet us kids with so much enthusiasm that seeing her was like feeling a warm summer breeze on a "go with the flow" day.

In my heart forever<3

To John, Mary and Lyn,
Your Mom was more than an Aunt to me. Neetie was my sidekick for many outings. We enjoyed lunches, sewing quilts or just walking and talking. She will be greatly missed by me and others that loved her. RIP Neetie. Love, Carol
