Sandra "Sandy" Pickering

Concord , NH - Sandra Ames Pickering, 64, passed away on Monday, May 27th, 2024, at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord after a 23-year courageous battle with cancer. She was Born on September 30th, 1959, in Concord, NH, the first daughter of Herbert S. Carpenter III and Marjorie A. Carpenter. She married the love of her life Gary J. Pickering on March 08th 1980 in Concord, NH.

Sandy grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1978. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield as well as Behavioral Health Network in Concord before medically retiring in September of 2001.

Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when you needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. Sandy was a friend to many and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and formidable strength. Sandy loved to read in her down time. She spent as much time as possible with her close friends and family. She loved to travel to York Maine as well as Walt Disney World.

She is predeceased by infant son Robert C. Pickering and her father Herbert S. Carpenter III. She is survived by her mother Marjorie A. Carpenter, husband Gary J. Pickering of 44 years, son Sergeant First Class Christopher J. Pickering and his wife Keeley S. Pickering, three grandchildren, Lennox J. Pickering, Ezra B. Wyman, Vivi-Ann A. Pickering. She leaves behind one brother Herbert S. Carpenter IV and one sister Cheryl A. Tepper. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held on Monday June 10th at 12pm at Boscawen Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen NH 03303.

Donations may be made in Sandra's memory to Age at Home LLC, 24 Hammond St., Concord NH 03301.

I worked with Sandy for many years at BCBS and BHN. I was so sad to hear of her passing. She was such an amazing person, always friendly and happy, and a joy to be around. I will miss her dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to Gary & Chris and all of her extended family.

I worked with Sandy many years ago at BHN. She was such a kind woman. She was so sweet and easy to talk to. We stayed in contact for a while after our work relationship ended but over time lost touch. May she rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to her family. Fly high Sandy.
