Edward Gougeon Obituary

Edward Gougeon

Ashfield , MA - Edward (Ed) J. Gougeon Ashfield MA- With broken hearts we announce Ed, 66, has passed away on Tuesday July 16th 2024 at Lahey Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Northampton on August 12th, 1957 to the late Norman "Poppo" Gougeon and his wife Carol (Williams) Gougeon. He attended and graduated from Smith Vocational in 1976. He resided in Ashfield with his dog Willow, and his beautiful gardens that he was well known for. Ed was a diligent worker, he worked as a Master Assembly Technician at Temp-Pro Inc in Northampton for 45 years. He enjoyed working in his vegetable gardens, fishing and hunting, cooking the most amazing meals, and spending time with his son Joe. He was predeceased by his parents and his best friend, Fred Uhlig. He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Megan Gougeon, brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Susan Gougeon, brother and sister-in-law John and Lorrie Gougeon, sister Marie Bates, and brother Eric Gougeon. He also leaves behind many friends and family who deeply loved him. Instead of a funeral service, Ed's family has decided it would be best to have a celebration of life in honor of his wonderful spirit, with love and laughter amongst his closest friends and family. He was truly one of a kind. This isn't goodbye, it's see you later.

(I meant to sign the last message Angel, not Temp-Pro, but I was teary-eyed.)

I had the honor of working with Ed for a few years at Temp-Pro. I became attached to the eclectic clan than made up what I referred to as my Island of Misfit Toys through hard years, including 2020 and the redundant year that followed. Ed had a vast wealth of self-taught knowledge, often offered unsolicited advice and once even soldered a broken earring for me. Ed was just so unapologetically Ed: he worked hard, played hard, ate often, laughed often, swore like a sailor, but he loved the outdoors and always seemed to have a heart beneath his rough and gruff exterior. Once I was giving a customer a tour and once to the chagrin of the GM, Ed informed the guy that he didn't read any instructions; he'd been making the parts for over 30 damn years and could pretty much make 'em blindfolded! He was loveable curmudgeon, like Oscar the Grouch.

I worked with Ed at Temp-Pro and he always made me laugh. Every spring he would bring me asparagus from his garden. I enjoyed our conversations and the pictures he shared.
Temp-Pro will never be the same without you.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Ed and I ate lunch together for a year and had many laughs together. He gave me the some of the sweetest pineapple and we always joked that we had the same birthday.
We were Leo strong.
Sorry for your loss he was a great guy with a kind heart.
