Dolores Burkhalter Obituary
She grew up in Macon, Georgia. In 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Don Burkhalter. Together they moved all over the southeast with Don's job and later traveled throughout the world. Dolores was a devoted mother and attended college while raising her two daughters, maintaining a 4.0 throughout college, and graduating from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Don and Dolores settled in Atlanta in 1978. While Don traveled on international business, Dolores had a career as a highly successful real estate agent for over 30 years, and was a lifetime member of the Multimillion Dollar Club. After more than 40 years in Atlanta, they moved to Memphis in 2018 to be near family.
She is survived by her brother Wayne Kell, daughters, Lisa Mitchum (Bo), and Lori Lessley (John); grandchildren Elizabeth Kennedy (Matt), Mary Palekas (Joe), Jay Mitchum, Helen Holbrook (Nathan), Isabel Lesley, Kell Lesley, and great-grandchildren, Matthias, Tristan, and Mariel Holbrook, Nancy, Mary Lewis, and William Kennedy, and Bo Palekas. The family is grateful to the staff at Allen Morgan Nursing Home for their compassionate care, and especially to her companion Cheryl Broome.
A memorial service will be held on August 3, 2024 at Independent Presbyterian Church, 4738 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis. Visitation will be at 10:00 and funeral service at 11:00.
Memorials may be sent to the Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC) Foundation or the charity of your choice.
