The Barry Obituary

The Honorable Thomas Barry

Concord, NH - The Honorable Thomas Turley Barry, 76, an attorney and judge of Concord and Rye Beach, NH, passed away on Thursday, August 15, after a five-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Manchester, NH, to James and Rosemary Barry on August 28, 1947, Tom was a proud third-generation New Hampshirite who loved the law, Rye Beach, and most of all, his family. Tom graduated from Memorial High School in Manchester, followed by St. Anselm College and what is now The Antonin Scalia Law School.

While in law school, Tom worked for U.S. Senator Norris Cotton (R-NH) in Washington, D.C. It was there that he met the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Margaret. Together, they returned to Tom's native New Hampshire, where they raised two daughters. Though Tom was deeply devoted to his legal career, he never missed a field hockey game, a musical performance, or a moment with his girls.

Throughout his career, Tom's commitment to his clients and the pursuit of justice was unwavering. He believed strongly in using his legal skills to help others, and remained steadfast in his commitment to representing all persons in need.

In addition to the private practice of law, Tom was nominated by Governor Stephen E. Merrill to a part-time seat on the New Hampshire Circuit Court, where he served as a judge for 21 years. Tom was also active in numerous professional organizations, including as past president of both the Merrimack County Bar Association and the Daniel Webster Inn of Court.

Tom is survived by many family members including his wife, Margaret Goodrich Barry; his daughters, Julia E. Barry and Johanna E. Reiter (Barry) and their husbands, Charlie A. Brickman and Brian J. Reiter; and his brother, The Honorable James J. Barry; and sister-in-law, Kimberlee Barry.

Services: Calling hours are Friday, October 18, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.

An additional calling hour will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM in St. Theresa Church, 820 Central Rd, Rye Beach, NH.
