Teresa Crone Obituary

A lifelong Memphian, Teresa Annette Crone, daughter of Walter and Leah V. Dawson Crone, passed away peacefully on October 5th in the company of her loving siblings and other close family members.

Teresa lived a wonderful life - we are sad to see her go but happy to gather with her family (both blood and chosen) to celebrate all the things that made her special.

Teresa's life path was uniquely challenging as she faced the difficulties associated with severe developmental disabilities from birth, but she always found ways to bring joy, gratitude and inspiration to so many people all throughout her life. Graced with the unwavering loving care and support of her devoted parents, Teresa was able to enjoy the best childhood possible. She was a genuine gift to her parents and siblings – her raw energy and laughter brought her family a lifetime of memories and important life lessons.

Teresa was a longtime resident of Arlington Developmental Center and was fortunate to have spent the last fourteen years of her life in a wonderful group home, Darolyn, in the suburbs of Bartlett, Tenn. There she was gifted with a most supportive staff, longtime friends and roommates which constituted a loving second family.

She is survived by siblings Walter Stephen Crone of Raleigh NC, Susan Maria Gwaltney and her husband James 'Pete' Gwaltney of Charlotte, NC, Timothy Hayden Crone and his wife Mali Crone of Tampa FL. She is also survived by nephew James 'Trey' Gwaltney (Hilary), niece Molly Marie Capps (Shane), grandniece Saraphina Gwaltney, grandnephew Colson Gwaltney and grandnephew Dawson Capps.

A visitation & rosary will be held at Canale Funeral Home Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 4:30pm -6:30pm. There will be a Catholic Mass to honor her life at St. Louis Catholic Church on Wednesday, Oct 9 at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception (at the church).

We welcome anyone who loved Teresa to come for a celebration of her life.

For those wishing to send a memorial from afar, in lieu of flowers, you're invited to make a gift in her name to St. Jude's.

Our family has always cherished the work the researchers, nurses, doctors, and staff do to make the world a better place.

This is the hardest part of being in the Healthcare field; the bond & the attachments you form with the people you care for. You definitely made it known you was the Queen sitting at the door dressed & ready & waiting for the day to start in your shades. Your work family becomes a big part of your life no matter how bad or good the times are. "Big Mamma" I will miss those vocal tones when I arrived to work. You made it known that you was #1. It was a pleasure knowing you Teresa. We all will miss you GREATLY. Deepest condolences to the family. RIP
