Mary Kapos Obituary

Mary Kapos, 92, peacefully joined our Heavenly Father on October 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren as they celebrated her final birthday.

She was born in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Efthalia and Sotirios Valsamis. At age 6, Mary, her mother and sister (Aspasia d.2013) were in Kefalonia, Greece when WWII began where they endured the challenges of a German occupied island. At age 13, they reunited as a family in Memphis.

Mary attended and graduated from St. Agnes Academy and in 1955, married Bob Kapos (d.2001). Together they built and ran two businesses: Bob Kapos Painting/Contracting Co. and Kapos Rental Property. Mary skillfully balanced her roles as Bob's right hand person and a dedicated homemaker.

Together they had 3 daughters, Theodora Kapos Alekos (George), Thalia Kapos Psikogios (d.1999) (Michael), and Julia Kapos Valelis (Konstantinos). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Dimitri Alekos, Robert (Bobby) Alekos (Nathalie), and Maria Psikogios.

Mary was very active in the Greek Community being a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, The Cefalonian Society, and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, October 10th beginning at nine o'clock in the morning until funeral services begin at ten o'clock all at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 573 N. Highland Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38122.

In lieu of of flowers, donations may be made to either Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org) or Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

May her Memory be Eternal.
