Delores Bridgewater

Delores was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Earnestine & Robert Peterson on October 25, 1942. Delores was an only child of this union. She attended Manassas High School. She attended Memphis State University and received credits in accounting. She started working for Jessie H. Turner, CPA as a bookkeeper. During this time, she was a long-time member of the NAACP and participated in the sanitation workers strike of 1968. For several years, she worked for AFSCME Union Local 1733 before joining the Shelby County Tax Assessor's Office where she retired. During her tenure with Shelby County, she also worked for Charles Whitsy Management Advisory Services as a bookkeeper until July 2024. She was involved in St. Peters Guild No. 5, H.O.T.C. and Daughter of the Elks, I.B.P.O. Elks of the World. Delores is survived by her children Shelia (Bridgewater) Ellis, Verena (Bridgewater) Johnson, Kenneth Bridgewater and Preston Bridgewater. Grandchildren: Shayna Ellis, Michael Ellis, II, Alexandra Johnson and Kandace (Bridgewater)Swift, Great-Grandchildren: Kyran Ellis and Atlas Swift. Aunts T.C. Johnson and Mozelle Williams and a host of cousins. The family extends our sincere thanks Lawanda Fleming and Eva (Ann) Finley who were a tremendous help when needed.
