Carlos Atkins Obituary
Hawley, MA - Carlos A. Atkins, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
Born on May 30, 1936 at his lifelong home in Hawley, he was the son of Laurence and Ethel (Sardam) Atkins.
Carlos attended Arms Academy and served his country in the Army Reserves before marrying his love Gail (Shepherd) in 1961. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage before her passing in 2010.
Carlos worked throughout his life, first on the farm and helping his neighbors, and later at Avery's Store, Snow's Dairy, and Warner Brothers where he worked for 38 years as a blacktop plant operator. He was a longtime member of the Charlemont Lions Club.
Carlos found his peace on the farm with his family. He enjoyed playing cribbage, watching westerns and cutting and splitting wood.
Survivors include his children Wendi (Dennis) Cronk, Daniel (Tracy) Atkins, Tara (Joe) Desroches and Mandy (Douglas) Jillson; 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gail, and his daughter Lauri (Andrew) Bassett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlemont Lions Club or Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
There will be no calling hours and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We were deeply saddened to hear of your Dad´s passing. We were not privileged to have known him. But we know he had character and personality that endeared him to all who came in contact with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family´s. Nothing can take from you the wealth of Wonderful Memories and Happiness that you have shared for many years.
