Vernon R. Cannon

Vernon R. Cannon, 70, a lifelong resident of Millington, TN, passed away on November 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon (Rudy) and Maxine Cannon, and his brother, Forrest Cannon.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Brenda Roberson Cannon; sons, John Forsberg (Daelynn) and John Lee (Beth); grandchildren, Pyper and Quinn Forsberg; sister, Marilyn McCracken; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vernon was a star baseball player and a graduate of Millington Central High School, class of 1972. He attended UT Martin for two years before embarking on a successful career as a master plumber. He worked for Ray Baker Plumbing for several years and later retired from King George at the Navy base.

An avid fan of George Strait, the Memphis Tigers, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and BBQ (not necessarily in that order), Vernon had a passion for smoking meat. He enjoyed firing up his smoker for any occasion, often serving a feast that included smoked pork butt, ribs, wings, hamburgers, hot dogs, and KFC coleslaw. While he promised dinner would be ready around 4:00–4:30 p.m., anyone who waited until 6:00 p.m. was never disappointed. His generosity, both in food and spirit, ensured that no one left his home hungry.

Vernon was always ready to lend a hand, particularly when it came to fixing things. With a well-stocked shed of plumbing parts, he was just a phone call away for anyone in need.

Above all, Vernon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 1st from 1-4 pm at Navy Lake, 6231 Kerrville/Rosemark Rd.
