Maxine Darnell Obituary

Maxine Gibson Darnell, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024 after an extended illness. For almost 93 years Maxine maintained her love for life, family and friends and expressed gratitude for her long life and wonderful experiences.

Maxine was born in Gleason, TN in 1931 to Thomas and Bessie (Hood) Gibson. She graduated high school in Martin before marrying her late husband John Glenn Darnell. She traveled throughout the country as a military wife for over 20 years all while raising her children. John and Maxine settled in Bartlett, TN after his retirement from the Navy. Maxine attended Memphis State University and spent her working life as a bank teller for First Tennessee Bank and as a real estate agent.

Maxine was a beloved mother to the late Randy (Jeannie) Darnell, Richard (Candace) Darnell, and Lori (Jim) Cothron. Maxine leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her late husband John G. Darnell, her son Randall Darnell, her parents Thomas and Bessie Gibson, as well as 3 brothers and her sister.

Maxine will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Memphis Tennessee. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday December 4th at 1:00 PM.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
