Dr. Bob Thomas was born on January 2, 1953 in Shelby County, Tennessee, the son of the late Dr. Howard W. Thomas and Dora Ann Robertson Thomas.
On December 20, 1975, he was united in marriage to Detra DeLap, who survives.
Bob graduated from Hardin County High School in 1971. He continued his education at Memphis State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology followed by attending UT Dental School in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating dental school in 1978, Dr. Bob went on practice dentistry along with his dad at the Thomas Clinic where his dad practiced medicine.
In years past, he loved going on Christian cruises with southern gospel groups, Adrian Rogers and Charles Stanley.
He was a fan of baseball and other sports in his younger years. Dr. Bob was a dedicated fan of the Hardin County Tigers and loved to show his support by attending all of their games.
Dr. Thomas was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. He was a previous member of Rotary Club, Hopewell Choir, and Gideons International, speaking in surrounding churches for over 10 years for them, sharing his testimony of what God had done for him.
Dr. Bob Thomas departed this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Detra DeLap Thomas of Savannah, Tennessee; daughters, Ashley Dee Thomas Byrd (Justin) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Lesley Thomas Butler (Brandon) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Kelsey Thomas Alexander (fiancé, Amos Tuck) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; brothers, Dr. Jim Thomas (Suzanne) of Savannah, Tennessee and Dr. Joseph Thomas (Rita) of Valdosta, Georgia; and grandchildren, Kathryne Kemp, Koen Kemp, and Betsy Alexander.
