Modean Edwards Obituary

Modean Elizabeth Bailey Edwards, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, with her loving family by her side. A devoted member of Antioch Church of Christ, Modean was born as the eldest of six children to Arnold and Evelyn Bailey. She met her beloved husband, Walter, in 1944, and together they shared many wonderful years. Modean dedicated much of her life to caring for her family as a homemaker before working outside the home at Carters Manufacturing, where she remained until her retirement in the early 1990s. Following her retirement, she found great joy in caring for "bye-bye" babies. In her free time, Modean enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including tending to her garden, sewing, cooking, and she especially loved her kittens. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Modean was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Edwards; her daughter, Martha; her parents, Arnold and Evelyn Bailey, and two siblings, Thompson Bailey and Peggy Bailey Johnston. She leaves behind her sisters, Dorothy Frazier and Linda Moore (James); a brother, Butch Bailey (Nancy); a brother-in-law, Ernest Johnston, and a host of nieces, nephews, and those who loved her. A funeral service will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home, located at 6875 Cockrum St., Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Palestine Church Cemetery in Coldwater, MS.
