Mitzie Holliday Obituary

Mitzie Jean Holliday of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away on January 11, 2025. Mitzie was born August 22, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee to William C. Hall and Josephine (Denman) Hall. Mitzie moved to St. Petersburg as a child and was raised in beautiful, sunny Florida. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1955. She met her husband, John Howard Holliday, at Toccoa Bible College in Georgia. They were married for 68 years. She was a career-minded woman for her generation. After her children were enrolled in school, she embarked on a career at Nationwide Insurance in Memphis. She was the first female Underwriter in her department. After she retired in the 2000's, most Underwriters at Nationwide were women. At the same time, Mitzie was a fantastic mom and helped her boys' set records by selling the most candy in school fundraisers and helping them with art projects. Mitzie's three boys were her whole world and her love for them was infinite. Mitzie was known as "Meme" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During retirement, she spoiled her grandchildren by taking them to museums, movies, and swimming with them in her pool. She was extremely artistic and proudly displayed her grandchildren's artwork in her living room. Her favorite time was the Christmas season, and she loved spoiling her grandchildren with many presents on Christmas morning. She loved celebrating Jesus's birthday and the joy that came with it. She was a devout Christian and sang in her church choir at Ellendale Baptist Church. Mitzie is survived by her younger sister Benita (Robert) Wheeler of North Carolina along with two sons John Jr. (Shawn) and Kip (Sandra) Holliday. Mitzie was preceded in death by her husband John Holliday and son Chris (Susan) Holliday. She could not wait to be greeted in Heaven by her beloved son Chris Holliday and grandmother Beulah Bunch Denman. There was simply no one like Mitzie Holliday. She will be remembered for her devout faith in God, extreme generosity, and abundant love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mitzie is survived by her seven grandchildren Patrick, Nicholas (Jessy), Jonathan, Andrew, Elizabeth, Paige, and Carlee; and two great-granddaughters Violet and Chloe. My sister, Mitzie was my first blessing God gave me.
I was born on her 13th birthday. She had my back for 74 years. Her wisdom and mercy taught us all.
You deserve His peace and rest. Much love.

Mitzie and I sat next to each other in choir. She was a joy to be with. I will miss sending her cards. She love the Lord and loved singing praises to Him. I know she is singing in heaven.
