Arlyne Glassberg Schwartz

Arlyne Glassberg Schwartz (1935 - 2025) died on January 16th 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love kindness and optimism. She is survived by her children; Nancy Nash (Randy), Charles Buring (Rebecca), Betsy Buring and Jeanne Wurzburg (Warren). Arlyne's first child, daughter Leigh Buring, predeceased her at age10. Arlyne also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, Ben Schwartz. Arlyne was an officer in Central High School's graduating class of 1953 and she was elected to be Miss Vanderbilt in the late 1950s.

An active and generous volunteer within the Memphis Jewish Community, Arylene was instrumental in the creation of the Memphis Jewish Federation's Lion of Judah program for women, philanthropist and endowed a Lion of Judah Pin. She chaired the Temple Israel Mitzvah Day foundation and work to help organize the Temple's archives. She served as executive director of the woman's division of the Memphis Jewish federation for many years.

Arlyne was a loving mother grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother and friend. Her unwavering devotion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The family requests memorials to be sent to Saint Jude's Children, Hospital and Memphis Jewish Family Service.

The funeral service will be 1 pm, Sunday, January 19, 2025, in the Levy-Cooper Chapel at Temple Israel Cemetery.
