Hoffman, Ruth A.

Ruth (Nancy) A. Hoffman, age 100, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 in Springboro, Ohio. She was born on March 15,1924 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Harry and Ada Burns.

Ruth experienced an entire century of life well lived. Capturing great moments of love, loss and laughter along the way. She graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1942 and married Joseph Hoffman on July 12, 1947. Their home was a revolving door where those who came to stay or visit received a lot of love, care and generosity. She would become a caregiver for many family members as the years passed. She carried a strong work ethic. Working on the family farm as a young girl, for the hospital and the telephone company before taking a job at her uncle's company, American Gage and Manufacturing. She became a business owner when she and her husband opened Hoffman's Carryout. As life slowed down, she loved to read mystery books and spend time with family and friends.

Her longevity in life meant she witnessed the loss of many family members and friends. Notably her parents Harry and Ada, brothers Harry Jr. and Richard Burns and husband Joseph Hoffman.

She is survived by three nieces, Dianna Burns, Ann Barger, and Kathy (Chester) Quinn; three nephews, Thomas Barger, Michael (Regina) Barger and Paul (Mary) Barger; a cousin Dorthy Washburn and close friends Rudy and Gail Crain. She also leaves behind great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family and close friends.

Ruth could tell so many stories from her long life. That voice telling those stories will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January, 31, 2025 at Oak Dale Cemetery (319 Patrick Avenue, Urbana, OH 43078). Arrangements and care provided by Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton.
