Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. - Leonardtown on Mar. 13, 2026.
Lawrence Alvin Hoffman, Sr., 59, of Avenue, MD, died surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, February 27, 2026. He was born June 18, 1966 in
Leonardtown, MD to the late Richard and Margaret (nee: Raley) Currie.
Larry had many interests and was always getting into something. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He drove a tractor-trailer for many years; he especially loved traveling across the states and seeing many different sights. He loved playing in the dirt and worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. Larry could do anything he put his mind too. He found peace on the water, and enjoyed fishing, crabbing and oystering. On a typical Sunday, he would be found sitting back watching NASCAR, following the Intimidator, the late Dale Earnhardt, or with his family and partners-in-crime, Ricky Morris and Benton Burch. He was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, and enjoyed listening to his music. Larry had a good heart, a quick wit, and a great deal of spunk, that will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Robin Cole (Joe) of
Lusby, MD, Lindsey Hoffman (Todd) of
LaPlata, MD and Lawrence Alvin "LJ" Hoffman, Jr. of
Hollywood, MD; his companion for many years Melissa Jo "Missy" Jones of Avenue, MD; her daughter, Megan Wathen of
Leonardtown, MD; and Megan's children that he loved as grandchildren, Bentley and Greyson, also known as George and Pugsley (Larry had nicknames for everyone). He is also survived by his siblings: Margi Connor (Rob) of
Winchester, VA, Irene Anderson (Jimmy) of
Winchester, VA, Aggie Laungayan (Noel) of
Lexington Park, MD; and Richie Currie (Nikki) of
Lexington Park, MD; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Larry is also preceded in death by his brothers, Herman Earl Hoffman, Jr. and Joseph R. Currie, Jr., and his infant nephew, Joseph Louis Currie.
Larry fought cancer with courage and faith. The family is very grateful to Dr. Michael Dang and the wonderful nurses who took excellent care of him while in the Intensive Care Unit at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital. While hospitalized, Pastor Bob Cooney of Real Life Church in
Mechanicsville, MD anointed him with oil and prayed over him. Larry believed in giving his heart to Jesus, that he was given a little more time to talk with loved ones. Two days prior to the anointing, with the help of Hospice of St. Mary's, Larry was able to return to his sister and brother-in-law, Aggie and Noel's home. He was able to talk with all his loved ones and shared stories until he went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Larry's name may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625,
Leonardtown, MD 20650.
A Graveside service will be held at a later date at Charles Memorial Gardens in
Leonardtown, MD.
