Patsy Coleman Obituary

Patsy Sue Coleman of Lakeland, Tennessee was 84 when she left this life on Thursday, February 6. Beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was born February 9, 1940 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Rose Marie and Abner Brooks Davis and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1959, she married her first love, Cedric Gordon. In 1968 they moved with daughter Susan to Memphis. Patsy worked in Memphis for the South Central Bell Telephone Company prior to adopting her son in 1974. Subsequently she began a 35 year career as Executive Secretary at LeBonheur Children's Hospital, later working simultaneously for Home Interiors and Goldsmith's Department Store. On April 16, 1986 she married Bobbie Wayne Coleman, whom she adored in letters as her "best friend and love". Patsy was a passionate believer and faithful follower of God. Together with Bob they loved singing in their church choir, family activities, traveling and antiquing, creating a renowned collection of inkwells, bells, and thimbles. She remained an avid reader throughout her life, loved crocheting blankets for others, and devoted herself to the family scrapbooks which she meticulously created. Always curious, ever active, she loved long walks, gardening, flowers and flowering trees of all kinds. She cheered passionately at her son's, grandson's, and great grandson's sports events, and thrilled at her daughter's and great grandson's concerts. She was known for her beautiful, contagious smile and her endless heart, loved for her kindness, and praised by all she met for the purity of her heart and commitment to help others. Her sympathetic nature often showed itself as she was moved to tears easily and often by acts of love and kindness in books, on screen, and in life. She will be forever remembered for her wonderful laugh. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Brooks and Rose Marie Davis and Bob Coleman, her husband of 29 years. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Baskin; daughter, Susan Lynn Salabor; son, William Cedric Gordon, Jr.; grandchildren Tiffany Rush and Justin Harden; and great grandchildren Caleb Mynatt and Cooper Rush.
